Thanks all for the comments. I did wonder if it's a fad - being stuck in twitter mode - and I hope it is, but maybe only until the next thing, Internet fads seem to fade fast, but the next thing seems to be at least as annoying as the last. If the kids want to grow up with only MySpace and Twitter and Facebook, I think its sad - and probably our fault as a generation - but we geezers don't have to do it. I'm with you Ben - dance away, baby. Nothing wrong with being the guy surrounded by women....

I must admit that over the past few years, I have occasionally tried "live blogging", which was pretty much a precursor to this, but I've never been able to keep it up for more than a few minutes. When there is actual stuff going on, why would I want to write about it instead of experiencing it? I've never tried Twitter, but I am appalled by the triviality of it when people include it on their websites and such. Of course, I am 45, so officially closer to dinosaur than not, but I still couldn't agree more.

And specifically about the dancing, since this is an older issue, why is it that so many men (or grown boys) have so much trouble understanding that if you get up and dance, you can be the least rhythmic, most clumsy fool out there, and your wife, significant other, or just the random women around will still appreciate it. I am not a great dancer by any means, but I have gone to benefits and weddings and such and my wife and I will be out dancing and every time, I'm one of the only guys out there. I'm surounded by beautiful women and having fun, and they are sitting at a table, whether they are twittering or not, looking generally awkward. I'll never get that.

Thanks for writing about this. I hope it makes some people stop and think.

One aspect of Twitter seems to be the life-long quest (for some) to attempt to control what other people think about them. By sharing their thoughts and actions they can (perhaps) focus what other people have in their mind about them... and they can "see" what others think about them.

If I were to only focus on the friends that are not physically present and ignore the ones in front of me I would imagine myself to wake up one day and be a very lonesome person.

Another aspect about Twitter is security and integrity. Since people tell everything it would be easy for a bad person to track the movements of someone and find out when they are not at home etc.

Life happens right now and it's just in front of you.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts

//Joachim
