Notes 7.0.2 - I can’t wait!
I can't wait until you get to see and use ND 7.0.2. You've heard all about the Innovation Pack and Nomad (which now seems to be more formally "Lotus Notes on USB"), and the blog template and all. I've been running the code for some time now, and have recently tested 2 different functions.
First, Lotus Notes on USB (Nomad) has great potential for some customers. Ed and Declan have had discussions over on their blogs about it. A lot of questions were asked about how to get files over to the key, etc. One solution that works beautifully is to make your users Roaming Users. I tested that solution this morning in preparation for a demo and it simply works. This will be the easiest way to keep files in synch.
But, there's at least one tiny, subtle change in the Notes Client that I think will make you admin-types very, very happy. I know as an end-user, I'm happy about it.
You know how when you try to send a business note to a friend/co-worker, and Notes wants to send to the friend's personal account that's listed in your local names.nsf ? Those days are GONE! There's a new setting for Mail addressing called "Server then Local". It tells Notes to look to the server first for names when addressing mail. Now you can keep all the personal information for your co-workers locally and the work stuff stays on the server. Here's how the field looks:
But now you have to be careful when sending those email jokes to your co-workers, because you may send them to their work account. Not that you would ever use your work account to send email that's not business-related. (And you really shouldn't do that - at least here in the states, because the email system you're using at work is governed by a host of laws and is probably monitored closely. You should use your personal account.)
The only problem is - this is one of those fields that's not set with desktop polices out of the box. You CAN set it though, using the technique described in this technote: Can policies be used to populate fields in Location documents or create Connection documents?. The field you'll be working with is "MailAddressing" and the value you'll want is "3".
So hang in there, Notes 7.0.2 is about 2 weeks away.
